You can recognize it by the dramatic, stepped-back silhouette of its upper floors, designed to comply with the city’s nineteen twenty-three zoning laws. Sheathed in buff-colored limestone and dark terra cotta, the building occupies a narrow, sixty-foot-wide site where it marks the southern end of the Michigan Avenue Bridge. Because the street jogs at this intersection, the tower appears to sit directly in the center of the avenue for anyone looking north.
