The One North LaSalle Building is a forty-nine-story tower defined by its soaring, streamlined vertical lines and dramatic setbacks. Completed in nineteen thirty, this Art Deco skyscraper occupies a site near where the explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, reportedly kept a seventeenth-century camp. Architects Karl Vitzthum and John Burns designed the structure to project the ambition of the late nineteen twenties, a period when developers sought to signal boundless industrial progress through geometric precision and lavish detail.
