The Aon Center is a soaring, vertically pinstriped rectangle that rises one thousand one hundred thirty-six feet above the city. Completed in nineteen seventy-three, it features a distinctive white facade of vertical bands that frame narrow windows. Architects Edward Durell Stone and the partnership of Perkins and Will designed the building as the corporate headquarters for the Standard Oil Company of Indiana, which led locals to nickname the massive structure Big Stan.
