The DePaul Center stands at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and State Street as an eleven-story masonry building that serves as the anchor of DePaul University's downtown campus. Its facade reflects its origins as the flagship store for Rothschild and Company, built in nineteen twelve, and later the Goldblatt’s Department Store. By the late nineteen eighties, the structure had fallen into disrepair and sat vacant, leading the city to consider its demolition.
