Willoughby Tower stands at eight South Michigan Avenue, recognizable by its Gothic style and limestone exterior. Completed in nineteen twenty-nine, the thirty-eight-story structure rises on the site where the Sisters of Mercy established Chicago’s first convent in eighteen forty-six. Architect Samuel N. Crowen designed the building with a Gothic motif carried through both the exterior and the interior, including a lobby featuring green Italian bronze and solid bronze doorways.
