Pioneer Court is a wide, granite-paved plaza rising above the Chicago River, identifiable by its open expanse nestled between the historic Tribune Tower and the riverfront. Built in nineteen sixty-five, this elevated ground occupies a site with a long history of shifting uses. It covers the area where Jean-Baptiste Point du Sable, often called the father of Chicago, established a permanent homestead and trading post around seventeen ninety.
