Long Wharf

Long Wharf extends into Boston Harbor as a stone-paved pier, recognizable by its position at the end of State Street and its line of historic granite and brick buildings. Constructed between seventeen ten and seventeen twenty-one by Captain Oliver Noyes and his associates, this structure originally reached nearly a half-mile into the harbor. Its extreme length allowed large merchant vessels to dock and unload directly into warehouses, transforming the young town into a major hub of the Atlantic trading empire.
