Madison Square Park

Madison Square Park is marked by its winding, curved walkways that deliberately avoid any direct route across the grounds. This meandering design, laid out in eighteen seventy by Ignatz Pilat and William Grant, creates a sense of seclusion from the busy streets of the Flatiron District. The six point two acre site has been public land since sixteen eighty-six, evolving from a potter's field and a military parade ground into the manicured garden that opened to the public in eighteen forty-seven.
