The Fairmont Olympic Hotel sits on the full city block once occupied by the original campus of the University of Washington. You can distinguish the twelve-story structure by its buff-faced brick and terra cotta trim, designed in an Italian Renaissance style by the architectural firm George B. Post and Sons. When the hotel opened on December 6, 1924, more than two thousand residents attended a grand dinner and dance to celebrate its arrival.
