Bridge Stairs

Bridge Stairs in the Millers Point area are anchored by their setting against a sheer, curved sandstone cliff face that lines Hickson Road. These stairs belong to a sequence of pedestrian pathways carved into the bedrock during the early twentieth century by the Sydney Harbour Trust. They were part of a massive industrial redevelopment that transformed the Walsh Bay waterfront, requiring the excavation of the rock to link the ridge-top residential streets with the wharves below.
