Customs House

Customs House is a sandstone building at Circular Quay recognizable by its symmetrical facade and colonnaded portico. It was designed by colonial architect Mortimer Lewis and opened in eighteen forty-five to manage the city's growing maritime trade. For over one hundred and fifty years, this was the primary gateway for goods and people entering Australia, where officials collected duties and regulated what flowed into the colony.
