El Alamein Fountain

The El Alamein Fountain rises from Fitzroy Gardens in Kings Cross as a spherical burst of water, often described as a dandelion or thistledown. This bronze sculpture features two hundred and eleven radially arranged stalks that spray water into fine, saucer-shaped films. As these disks merge and break into mist, they create a shifting globe of light and shadow that changes with the wind. Beneath this centerpiece, water flows into a series of hexagonal pools through grooved bronze spillways designed to produce a precise, rhythmic sound intended to mask the noise of city traffic.
