The Strand Arcade

The Strand Arcade features a glass roof that spans three stories, casting light over a narrow concourse of tessellated ceramic tiles and cast-iron balustrades. Designed by English architect John B. Spencer, the building opened on April first, eighteen ninety-two, as the fifth and final Victorian-era arcade constructed in Sydney. It stretches three hundred and forty feet between Pitt and George Streets, offering a covered walkway that has protected pedestrians from the weather for over a century.
