Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is defined by its gleaming white, sail-shaped shells that rise prominently from Bennelong Point. This performing arts center, which sits at the edge of Sydney Harbour, was the winning entry in a nineteen fifty-seven international design competition. Danish architect Jørn Utzon submitted the original concept, which was initially passed over by three judges before a fourth judge championed it as a work of genius.
