The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a massive steel arch spanning the harbour, identifiable by the two towering, granite-faced pylons that anchor the structure at Dawes Point and Milsons Point. Completed in nineteen thirty-two, this through arch bridge stretches over one thousand one hundred meters, carrying rail, road, and pedestrian traffic between the central business district and the North Shore. Local residents often call it the Coathanger because of its distinctive arched silhouette.
