Sydney Town Hall

Sydney Town Hall is distinguished by its lavishly ornamented sandstone facade, featuring a prominent clock tower and steep mansard roofs characteristic of the French Second Empire style. Completed in stages between eighteen sixty-eight and eighteen eighty-nine, this building was designed to broadcast the wealth and ambition of a city that had only recently expanded beyond its colonial outskirts. It stands today as a rare example of a nineteenth-century municipal building that has retained its original function and interior layout.
