40,000 Years mural

The 40,000 Years mural stretches along the brick wall of the railway bridge opposite Redfern Station, defined by its powder blue background and the curving form of the Rainbow Serpent. Completed in 1983, it serves as a visual record of Aboriginal history, identity, and resilience in Redfern. The artist Carol Ruff led a collaborative team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, including Tracey Moffatt and musician Joe Geia, who consulted with local community members to gather stories for the design.
