Mount Pleasant Brewery Creek

Brewery Creek is defined by a dense concentration of modern craft breweries that occupy the streets of Mount Pleasant, reclaiming a name originally tied to a natural waterway that once flowed through this ravine. Before urban development replaced it with pipes and pavement in the early twentieth century, the creek served as a vital resource for the city's nascent beer industry. In eighteen eighty-eight, Charles Doering established the Vancouver Brewery here, damming the water to power his grain mill and setting off a local industrial boom that included slaughterhouses and tanneries.
