R&B Brewing Company occupies a long, rectangular space on East Fourth Avenue, distinguished from the street by a mix of high and low seating, a bar fronted by multicolored plastic pipes, and a back wall crafted from recycled analog speakers that actually play music. Established in nineteen ninety-seven by Barry Benson and Rick Dellow, the brewery arrived in Mount Pleasant long before the neighborhood became known for its concentration of craft beer producers. The founders originally worked for a brewing equipment manufacturer and started the company to produce hand-crafted ales and lagers, eventually becoming recognized as pioneers of cask-conditioned beer in the city.
