The Maison des Avocats at sixty rue Saint-Jean is recognized by a wide carriage entrance that once allowed horse-drawn wagons to pass directly into an inner courtyard. This building, which took its definitive form in fifteen twenty-eight, served as an inn known as the Ostel de la Croys in the early fifteenth century. It later became a meeting place for the Basoche, a brotherhood of legal clerks and law students who gathered here to discuss their profession and hold solemn ceremonies.
