The Guinguette de la Dhuys garden is marked by a large, shared table and a collection of varied plots sitting atop the path of a historic underground aqueduct. Built by engineer Eugène Belgrand in eighteen sixty-five, this subterranean structure once carried water from the Dhuys river toward the reservoir of Ménilmontant. After the municipality acquired the land in eighteen ninety-five, the area became a popular destination for Sunday outings, drawing Parisians to the various taverns—or guinguettes—that appeared along the route.
