The Indian Pavilion is a wooden structure topped with seven gold-leafed domes that rise above the surrounding park. Originally built for the eighteen seventy-eight Universal Exhibition in Paris to showcase British Indian art and crafts, the pavilion was commissioned by the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward the Seventh, and designed by the architect Caspar Purdon Clarke.
