The Hôtel de Ville of Montrouge is defined by its red brick facade accented with stone, a deliberate nod to the eighteenth-century château that previously stood on this site. Completed in eighteen eighty-three, the building was commissioned after the commune lost its original municipal offices to Paris during an annexation in eighteen sixty. Architect Jacques Paul Lequeux designed the town hall to assert the independence of the remaining community.
