The Fontaine de Montreuil stands as a stone square building on a traffic island where the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine meets the Rue de Montreuil. Designed by the architect Jean Beausire and completed in seventeen ten, it was one of several fountains commissioned to provide water to the growing faubourg. Its name, Fontaine de la Petite-Halle, refers to the nearby covered market for meat once operated by the abbess of the Saint-Antoine-des-Champs abbey.
