Hôpital Saint-Antoine

The Hôpital Saint-Antoine occupies the grounds of a former Benedictine abbey that was seized as national property during the French Revolution. In seventeen ninety-one, officials converted the religious site into a medical facility, partly to provide healthcare for the densely populated eastern neighborhoods of Paris and partly as a gesture of gratitude toward the residents of the faubourg Saint-Antoine for their active role in revolutionary events.
