Parc zoologique de Paris

The sixty-five-meter-tall Grand Rocher, an artificial concrete mountain, rises above the Bois de Vincennes and serves as the visual emblem of the Parc Zoologique de Paris. First inaugurated in nineteen thirty-four, the zoo was designed as a modern facility for the National Museum of Natural History, intended to move beyond traditional cages by using ditches and open spaces to separate visitors from the animals.
