The stone remnants you are approaching are the last visible fragments of the Château de Bercy. Once a sprawling estate designed by François Le Vau, the château began rising in sixteen fifty-eight as a grand residence for Charles-Henri de Malon de Bercy. Over several decades, generations of the Malon family refined the grounds and architecture, eventually creating a site that featured gardens attributed to the legendary André Le Nôtre, which stretched all the way down to the banks of the Seine.
