Musée Méliès

The Musée Méliès occupies a permanent exhibition space within the Cinémathèque française, housed in the distinctive postmodern building designed by architect Frank Gehry on Rue de Bercy. The museum serves as a dedicated tribute to Georges Méliès, the magician and early film director who transformed the nascent cinematograph into a tool for fantasy and narrative fiction. Visitors recognize his work through the famous, enduring image of a rocket embedded in the eye of the moon, an iconic shot from his nineteen oh two film, A Trip to the Moon.
