Pont de Tolbiac

landmark

The Pont de Tolbiac is defined by five sturdy stone arches spanning one hundred sixty-eight meters across the Seine. Built between eighteen seventy-nine and eighteen eighty-two, it was the final bridge in Paris constructed entirely of masonry before the widespread adoption of reinforced concrete. Engineers Henri-Prosper Bernard and Joseph-Denis-Alfred Pérouse designed the structure to link the growing Bercy district on the right bank with the Tolbiac area to the south, filling a long gap between the existing river crossings.
