The Church of Our Lady of Labour, located on Rue Vercingétorix, presents a conventional neo-Romanesque facade to the street, marked by stone walls and octagonal towers. This exterior appearance hides an unconventional interior designed specifically for the working-class residents of the Plaisance district. Between eighteen ninety-seven and nineteen oh two, architect Jules-Godefroy Astruc built this space for the thousands of laborers who constructed the great monuments and exhibition halls of Paris.
