La Maison du Fontainier is a seventeenth-century building of ashlar stone, topped by a steep, double-sloped roof with dormer windows and two chimneys. Constructed between sixteen nineteen and sixteen twenty-three, it sits at the twenty-seventh and final inspection point of the Médicis aqueduct. This thirteen-kilometer system was commissioned by Marie de Médicis to supply fresh water to the Palais du Luxembourg and the Left Bank, areas that had long struggled with water scarcity compared to the rest of the city.
