Ten Rue Delambre is marked today by an Italian restaurant, but in the nineteen twenties, this address housed the Dingo American Bar and Restaurant. It opened its doors in nineteen twenty-three and became a primary late-night destination for the expatriate writers and artists who defined the neighborhood. The bar was operated by Jimmie Charters, a former English lightweight boxer whose presence behind the counter drew a constant crowd of locals and visitors.
