Marie-Thérèse Auffray Garden

park garden

The Marie-Thérèse Auffray Garden is defined by its undulating, wave-like landscape, a design choice made to incorporate the remnants of two historic aqueducts that run beneath the soil. One is a Roman structure from the third century, while the other was commissioned by Marie de Médicis to supply her nearby palace. These ancient stone paths create distinct mounds and hollows, which the designer, Rorcha, turned into a sequence of grassy crests and intimate seating areas. In the spring, the space is recognized for the bloom of its Japanese cherry trees.
