Manufacture des Gobelins

The Manufacture des Gobelins is a historic tapestry factory in the thirteenth arrondissement of Paris, recognizable by its cluster of seventeenth-century buildings and the more recent structure facing the Avenue des Gobelins. Long before it gained royal status, the site hosted a modest dyeing workshop established by the Gobelin family in the fifteenth century. They drew water from the now-covered Bièvre River to create their signature intense scarlet dyes.
