The Théâtre du Ranelagh, located at five rue des Vignes, is recognizable by its ornate neo-Renaissance interior featuring carved oak paneling and a coffered ceiling. Built in eighteen ninety-four by the businessman and music enthusiast Louis Mors, the theater stands on the site of an earlier eighteenth-century music salon once used by noble patrons like Voltaire. Mors designed the space to house his own collection of musical instruments and performances, and he famously inscribed a Latin phrase over the door, which translates to, "For me and my friends."
