The Petite Ceinture is a winding, abandoned railway line that loops around Paris, distinguished by tracks overtaken by wild vegetation, graffiti-covered walls, and old railway bridges that cross over the city streets. Originally built in eighteen fifty-two to connect the major train stations and transport goods and troops around the city's old fortifications, the line once carried millions of passengers before falling into obsolescence with the rise of the metro and the automobile.
