La Villa Des Arts

The Villa des Arts is a private street in the eighteenth arrondissement that holds the most important collection of nineteenth-century artist studios in Paris. Its main entrance stands at fifteen rue Hégésippe-Moreau, where a heavy iron gate opens into a courtyard of workshops and gardens tucked against the edge of the Montmartre Cemetery. The buildings, constructed in eighteen eighty-eight by the architect Henri Cambon, contain a striking staircase and other ironwork elements salvaged from pavilions at the nineteen hundred World Exhibition.
