The Basilique Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc sits directly beside the medieval church of Saint-Denys de la Chapelle at eighteen Rue de la Chapelle. Its stark, folded-plate concrete roof distinguishes it from the older, traditional stone structure immediately next door. The church began as a project in nineteen fourteen, conceived as a votive offering for the safety of Paris during the First World War, with its location chosen because Joan of Arc prayed at the neighboring church of Saint-Denys in fourteen twenty-nine.
