Square de la Madone

The Square de la Madone is defined by a circular space containing a fountain that taps into the ancient Albian aquifer, located more than five hundred meters beneath Paris. This water is ferruginous and estimated to be twenty-five thousand years old. The park itself, opened in nineteen thirty-seven as Square Hébert, was designed to provide public space in the La Chapelle district after the expansion of Northern railway lines threatened to cut off residents from open air.
