Square Louise de Marillac sits at the intersection of the rue Marx-Dormoy and the boulevard de la Chapelle in the eighteenth arrondissement. Originally laid out in eighteen sixty-two as the Square de la Chapelle, it holds the distinction of being the first public square created in this district. Its southwestern corner occupies the former site of the Barrière Saint-Denis, one of the control points along the wall that once separated the village of La Chapelle from Paris.
