Couvent des Jacobins de la rue Saint-Honoré

The site where you now stand, the Place du Marché Saint-Honoré, sits on the ground once occupied by the Couvent des Jacobins de la rue Saint-Honoré. Founded in sixteen eleven by the Dominican friar Sébastien Michaëlis, this convent served as a monastic home for decades until the French Revolution reshaped its purpose entirely. By seventeen eighty-nine, the monks were gone, and the convent buildings became the meeting place for the Société des Amis de la Constitution.
