Schola Cantorum de Paris

The Schola Cantorum de Paris is a cream-colored stucco building with a cobblestone courtyard and a privet hedge, identifiable by its faded elegance along the rue Saint-Jacques. Founded in eighteen ninety-four by Charles Bordes, Alexandre Guilmant, and Vincent d'Indy, the institution was established to offer an alternative to the opera-focused curriculum of the Paris Conservatoire. Its founders prioritized instrumental music, Gregorian chant, and the study of older compositional styles.
