Académie Colarossi

The Académie Colarossi, located at ten rue de la Grande-Chaumière, was founded in eighteen seventy by the Italian sculptor Filippo Colarossi. It emerged as a deliberate alternative to the official and highly conservative École des Beaux-Arts. The school gained prominence for its progressive policies, becoming one of the first in Paris to admit female students and permit them to draw from nude male models. This environment drew artists from across the globe, and its classrooms hosted figures such as Camille Claudel, Amedeo Modigliani, and Henry Moore.
