The Jardin des Grands-Explorateurs follows a long, symmetrical line stretching along the Avenue de l'Observatoire. Created in eighteen sixty-seven, this green space honors two men: the Venetian traveler Marco Polo and the French explorer Robert Cavelier de La Salle, who claimed the Mississippi basin for France. The garden connects the Luxembourg Gardens to the Paris Observatory.
