Fontaine de la Régénération

The Fontaine de la Régénération stood on this ground in seventeen ninety-three, rising directly from the rubble of the demolished Bastille fortress. It featured a statue of the Egyptian goddess Isis, flanked by two lions, with water flowing from her breasts into a basin. Designed for the Festival of Unity and Indivisibility, the monument was constructed quickly out of plaster and papier-mâché.
