St. Anne's Church in the Butte-aux-Cailles

The Church of Saint Anne of the Butte-aux-Cailles rises above the neighborhood with two fifty-five-meter towers that local residents once nicknamed the Chocolate Towers. Built between eighteen ninety-four and nineteen twelve, the structure occupies a challenging site atop the former bed of the Bièvre River. To support its weight, architect Prosper Bobin had the building set upon seventy-one massive pilings that descend twenty-two meters to reach solid rock.
