The Church of Saint-Bernard de la Chapelle stands in the Goutte d'Or neighborhood with a sixty-meter tall spire and a distinctive neo-Gothic facade. Architect Auguste-Joseph Magne designed the building between eighteen fifty-eight and eighteen sixty-one to serve a population that had surged with the arrival of the Gare du Nord railway nearby. The church is framed by a square and enclosed by dense urban blocks, giving the site a provincial presence amidst the busy streets of the eighteenth arrondissement.
