Banksy “Napoleon Crossing the Alps”

A mural on the wall of forty-one Avenue de Flandre depicts a figure on horseback, an image instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with the history of French art. This work is a contemporary reimagining of the famous eighteen oh one painting by Jacques-Louis David, which portrays Napoleon Bonaparte leading his troops through the Alps. In this version, created by the artist Banksy in two thousand eighteen, the heroic French emperor is shown atop a rearing horse, but his face and body are entirely shrouded in a red cloak.
