Collège de France

The Collège de France is recognizable by its historic courtyards and the stone buildings that line the Place Marcelin Berthelot in the Latin Quarter. Founded in fifteen thirty by King Francis the First, the institution was originally established as the Collège Royal to teach subjects that were not yet accepted by the University of Paris. With the support of the humanist Guillaume Budé, the king appointed his first royal lecturers to instruct students in Hebrew, Ancient Greek, and mathematics.
