Allées de Tourny

The Allées de Tourny are defined by four rows of lime trees that create a shaded promenade between the Place de la Comédie and the Place Tourny. This wide avenue, measuring sixty-five meters across and two hundred sixty-five meters in length, was laid out in seventeen forty-seven by the Marquis de Tourny, the royal intendant of Bordeaux. He envisioned this space to bring order and beauty to the city, constructing it on the former site of a defensive path near the old Château Trompette.
